How to Choose an Impact Wrench for Distribution
How importers and distributors can compare impact wrench torque, drive size, battery kits, applications and range positioning.

The best impact wrench for a distribution program is not automatically the model with the highest torque. It is the model whose application, drive size, battery kit and price position match the customers a distributor already serves.
Start with the end user and the fastening job
Before comparing specifications, define where the tool will be used. Tyre service, vehicle maintenance, steel installation, equipment repair and industrial assembly can require different torque, size and duty-cycle choices.
- Automotive service: compact handling, common socket compatibility and controlled fastening are important.
- Fleet maintenance: runtime, battery availability and repeat use matter across multiple vehicles.
- Construction and steel work: higher fastening demand may justify a larger tool and battery.
- General retail: a familiar drive size and balanced kit can be easier to explain and stock.
Understand tightening torque and breakaway torque
Tightening torque describes fastening output under the stated test method. Breakaway or nut-busting torque describes the tool’s ability to loosen a fastener. These values are useful for product comparison only when the measurement conditions are consistent.
Do not build a range around one headline number. Ask for speed modes, impact rate, recommended bolt capacity, weight and the intended application. A compact lower-torque model can be more useful for routine service than a heavier high-output model.
Match the square drive to the channel
The square drive determines socket compatibility and helps signal the application class. A distributor should match the drive to locally available sockets and the fastener sizes commonly handled by customers. The quotation should clearly state the drive size and any included socket.
Compare the complete cordless kit
For a cordless impact wrench, the tool is only one part of the offer. Battery capacity, number of batteries, charger plug, case, belt clip and sockets change both customer value and landed cost.
| Kit decision | Why it matters | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Battery capacity | Changes runtime, weight and price | Capacity, quantity and platform compatibility |
| Charger | Affects local usability | Input voltage, frequency and plug |
| Bare tool or full kit | Targets different buyers | What is included in every SKU |
| Case and sockets | Changes presentation and convenience | Exact accessory list and packaging |
Build a range instead of listing near-duplicates
A clear three-level range is usually easier for a sales team to present than many models with small specification differences.
- Compact service model: balanced size and output for routine fastening.
- Professional core model: the main volume position with stronger output and a complete kit.
- Heavy-duty model: higher torque for demanding maintenance and installation work.
Each position should have a distinct reason to buy. If two models serve the same user at almost the same price, they may compete with each other rather than expand the range.
Check service and replacement-parts support
Distributors need a practical process for claims. Confirm the warranty scope, required fault evidence, available replacement parts and who performs the local repair. Spare switches, housings, gears or other service parts may be more useful to a professional channel than a vague promise of support.
Commercial questions for the quotation
Impact wrench RFQ checklist
- Target application and user type
- Required drive size and torque class
- Bare tool or battery kit
- Battery capacity and number of batteries
- Charger voltage, frequency and plug
- Case, sockets and other included accessories
- Branding, packaging and manual language
- Expected quantity, target timing and destination
- Required technical documents and service parts
Make the final comparison on the written configuration
Product photos and headline specifications help create a shortlist, but the final decision should use the written model code and complete kit list. This prevents a buyer from comparing one supplier’s bare tool price with another supplier’s two-battery kit.
